South to North...Day 7: Nashville, TN

DAY 7
Saturday, July 19, 2014
Nashville, Tennessee, USA to Memphis, Tennessee, USA
Weather: Sunny with clouds, 25 celsius

This morning we went for breakfast at the Stone Fox on 51st Ave.

They serve great brunch during the day, and host live music by night.

Still feeling a bit sleepy and having trouble keeping our eyes open, we took about five photos before we decided the photo would be better with our glasses on.

After brunch, we stopped at the Parthenon in Centennial Park. It was originally built in 1897 for an exposition, but apparently it became so popular that the city repaired it and left it standing for future generations. Now it serves as an art museum and backdrop for movies and events.

It's a true full-scale replica of the original Parthenon in Athens.

The pillars are massive and perfect for a photo shoot.

The Nashville Farmer's Market on Rosa Parks Blvd is open on Saturdays from 9am to 12pm, during May to October.

The market consists of several enclosed "sheds" or buildings full of vendors.

We stopped at this stall to buy some sticky buns and pies.

Most of the fresh produce was displayed in beautiful overflowing baskets and bushels.

The mini donuts remind me of the ones at the Guelph Farmer's Market that are rolled in cinnamon and sugar, and taste so delicious when they're freshly made and still warm.

We continued our tour at Gruhn Guitars on 8th Ave, known for their vintage guitars.

Whenever I see an upright bass, I always imagine that it's actually a huge violin that was stolen from a giant, and it makes me laugh every time.

This is definitely a dreamy store, with a plethora of gorgeous instruments to drool over.

Just down the street is a store with vintage furniture and clothing.

Afterwards, Drew took us to one of his favourite spots called Craft Brewed on Franklin Pike. They make over 20 different craft beers which you can buy by the pint or take home in 64 oz growlers. They also carry a wide selection of domestic and imported beers, as well as supplies for home brewing.

My favourite tap handle is the green shark in the middle.

It was hard to decide with so many options; Cool Springs Circumsaison was a good pick.

It was late afternoon when we finally said goodbye to Drew and got back on the road.

The drive between Nashville and Memphis should have taken around 3.5 hours, but it took us almost 5 hours with the trailer. The highway is surrounded by beautiful greenery on both sides, but after several hours on the road, it all starts to look the same.

We continued on the I-40 West (also called the "Music Highway") and crossed over the Tennessee River. This photo of the river almost looks like a painting.

We arrived just outside of Memphis by nightfall, and stopped at another Super 8 Motel.
